The Tortoise and the Hare

The Tortoise and the Hare
Once upon a time in a peaceful meadow, a boastful hare was always showing off his speed to the other animals. “No one can run faster than me!” he would say, bouncing from one corner to the other in seconds. The other animals were tired of hearing him brag, but they remained quiet—until one day, a quiet tortoise spoke up.
“I may not be as fast as you,” said the tortoise calmly, “but I’m sure I could beat you in a race.” The other animals gasped. The hare laughed so hard he nearly rolled on the ground. “You? Beat me? This will be over in a second!” he said, still laughing. But the tortoise stood his ground. “We’ll race from here to the big oak tree at the edge of the field,” he said.
The next morning, the animals gathered to witness the race. The sun was shining, and the path was clear. The race began, and the hare shot forward like a bolt of lightning. The tortoise, as expected, moved slowly but steadily. The hare looked back and saw the tortoise barely leaving the starting point. “This is too easy,” he said to himself. “I’ll take a quick nap and still win.”
The hare found a shady spot under a tree and dozed off. Meanwhile, the tortoise continued to walk—step by step, never stopping, never turning back. Hours passed, and the tortoise slowly passed the sleeping hare and kept going.
Eventually, the hare woke up and stretched. “Time to finish this race,” he said confidently. But as he raced towards the finish line, he saw something shocking. The tortoise was already there—just a few feet from the oak tree. The hare sprinted with all his might, but it was too late. The tortoise placed one final step and crossed the finish line.
The animals erupted in cheers. The hare was stunned. “How… how did you beat me?” he asked. The tortoise smiled and replied, “I may be slow, but I never stopped. Consistency and determination always win in the end.”
From that day on, the hare was no longer boastful. He learned a valuable lesson: “Slow and steady wins the race.”
Moral of the Story
No matter how talented you are, persistence and consistency can beat arrogance and overconfidence. Slow and steady truly wins the race.
